Painting takes center stage, in the artistic practice of Marleen Hendriks (1985, Bladel, NL). In addition she uses various other media to shape her ideas and investigate mental constructs. The immediate surroundings instinctively serve as a source for creation; utilitarian objects and architecture particularly catch her attention. In the creative process, tangible properties of materials, spaces, and constructions transform, stripping them of their original function.
In creating the predominantly figurative paintings, she studies ways of expressing matter and trompe l’oei effects. In doing so, she consistently strives for a tension that questions the visible reality.
Marleen Hendriks was raised in the Brabantse Kempen; a region close to the Belgian border. Her formative years were spent on a farm that over time evolved into a campground where she lived for a considerable amount of time. Afterwards she was resided in Eindhoven and Antwerp. In 2018, she achieved her BA of Fine Arts and Design in Education from the Academy of Arts in Tilburg and was nominated for the Jacques de Leeuw Cultural Prize.

Instinctief fungeert haar directe omgeving als bron voor creatie; hierbij vangen utilitaire objecten en architectuur haar aandacht in het bijzonder. Gedurende het creatieve proces veranderen de tastbare eigenschappen van materialen, ruimtes en constructies, waarbij deze hun oorspronkelijke gebruiksfunctie verliezen.
Bij het maken van de voornamelijk figuratieve schilderijen onderzoekt zij verschillende manieren van stofuitdrukking en trompe l’oei-effecten. Daarbij streeft ze consequent naar een spanning die de zichtbare werkelijkheid in vraag stelt.
Marleen Hendriks groeide op in de Brabantse Kempen; een regio dicht bij de Belgische grens. Haar vormende jaren bracht ze door op een boerderij die in de loop der tijd veranderde in een camping, waar ze later ook geruime tijd woonde. Daarna verbleef ze in Eindhoven en Antwerpen. Haar BA ‘Docent Beeldende Kunst en Vormgeving’ behaalde ze in 2018 aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg en werd genomineerd voor de Jacques de Leeuw Cultuurprijs.”
